Find Freedom in Ordinary Life

Mindfulness teaching, mentoring, and retreats with Sharon Shelton.

Life brings joy and loss, love and uncertainty, and plenty we can’t control. Meditation helps us meet this life with greater awareness, compassion, and freedom.

My teaching is grounded in the Insight Meditation tradition and the everyday practice of being human.

About Sharon

Hi, I’m Sharon.

I came to Insight meditation in the late 1990s, during early recovery from alcoholism. I was looking for a way to stay sober, be present, and learn how to live my life.

What I found was a practice that helped me suffer less and meet myself with greater kindness. It continues to support me through relationships, caregiving, grief, aging, and the ordinary joys and difficulties of being human.

Today, I teach meditation, offer retreats, and mentor practitioners and mindfulness teachers. I serve on the Teaching Council of Triangle Insight Meditation Community in Durham, North Carolina, and mentor teachers in the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program founded by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield.

For more than six years, I also served as a founding advisor and lead teacher at Banyan.

My teaching is practical and grounded in the Theravāda Insight tradition. I’m interested in how practice supports us in everyday life, with our relationships, responsibilities, and the challenges we face.
